Donald Trump is set to become US President today; let's not forget his five worst tweets

Donald Trump is officially set to become President of the United States; let’s recap his five worst tweets along the way.

If you’re reading this, you’re likely swatting in anticipation of Donald Trump’s inauguration, where the Republican presidential candidate and surprise victor of the US Presidential Elections will be sworn into the White House.
Trump’s career – and his presidential bid – have been checkered by numerous controversies and ill-intended statements; and no platform has had to carry the burden of the Trump presidential campaign like Twitter has.

As the United States either celebrates – or despairs – over today’s news, let’s take a moment to revisit Trump’s worst moments on his favourite social media platform.

On President Barack Obama

Donald Trump has spared little in his online offensive against the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama – and his primary aim has been to discredit Obama’s US citizenship by punting the so-called ‘birther’ theory – that Obama was supposedly born in Kenya and not Hawaii.
In August of 2012, Trump tweeted that a source had supposedly confirmed that Obama was in possession of a fraudulent birth certificate – something the Twitterverse was all too happy to jump on board with.

On Ebola

Trump is notorious for his views on immigrancy to the United States, and much of that venom was directed towards individuals infected with the Ebola virus in 2014 – many of whom had selflessly left the country to aid relief efforts in Sierra Leone and Liberia.
In August of 2014, America’s new president took to Twitter to carve another sweeping statement – that relief workers who had been infected with the virus while helping those without proper medical care should be barred entry to their home nation.

On Arianna Huffington

Twitter feuds are the name of the game for vitriolic celebrities, and Trump has proved himself no exception.
While targeting other famous figures from Hollywood, politics, and the media, Trump exemplified his bad behaviour on the service and took a nasty swipe at Huffington Post founder Arianna Huffington – targeting her ex-husband in one of his most acidic tweets.

On the 2012 US Presidential Election

We’re definitely unlikely to see this kind of tweet now in 2016.
In 2012, Trump provided one of his most prolific commentaries yet, citing that the entirety of the 2012 US Presidential Election – wherin President Barack Obama succeeded Mitt Romney to secure a second term – was a sham.

On global warming

Humankind is – for the first time in recorded history – affecting our environment for the worse in an ecological epoch dubbed the Anthropocene. As the production of greenhouse gasses continue and the planet warms, there’ll still be those that doubt the ecological impact of industrialization.
Trump proved himself one of these proponents in one of his most notorious tweets, where he sweepingly labelled the concept of global warming as a product of Chinese propaganda with the view of making manufacturing based in the United States less competitive.
If you can depart yourself from the incoherent logic of the message, let’s just take a moment to consider that for whatever reason, over 100,000 Twitter accounts retweeted Trump’s message.
