Kodak has unveiled the Ektra – it’s new Android smartphone which benefits from integrated Kodak cameras on both its front and rear.
Remember that time when Samsung decided to release a camera and slapped a phone on its back? It’s now 2016, and Kodak has had the same idea. Enter the Ektra – the company’s new Android smartphone which benefits from Kodak optics on both its front and rear cameras.
The Ektra, which takes the form of a 5″ Android smartphone with a 1080 display, a MediaTek Helio X-20 SoC, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable internal storage, and a faux-leather rear panel with a grip.

Of course, that’s hardly the reason you’re going to want to buy the Ektra. The device sports a 21-megapixel primary camera which supports 4K video capture and HDR and optical image stabilization. The primary lens benefits from a fast f/2.0 aperture, while the 13-megapixel secondary camera benefits from an aperture set at f/2.2.
The Ektra sports its own image app, which will allow users to switch between a number of different photographic presets – including portraiture, sports, bokeh, night, and a full manual mode.
The device is slated for launch this December, where it will sell first in the United Kingdom for the non-contract price of £450 GBP – that’s about $551 USD.
Only time will tell if Kodak can compete amongst other smartphone heavyweights which have evolved past the need for a bespoke camera system; take, for example, Huawei’s P9 which made us of a Leica-made dual-lens camera system.
