Apple has officially canned its ridiculous $10,000 USD gold Apple Watch Edition in favour of a new ceramic model which will retail from $1,249 USD.
We opined that Apple had reached new heights of lunacy when it unveiled its premium $10,000 USD Apple Watch Edition in gold plating last year, and now, with the announcement of the Apple Watch Series 2, that offering has officially bit the dust.
To clarify, the Apple Watch Edition is still very much a thing for people looking to purchase a ridiculously expensive Apple Watch; however, you won’t be able to purchase it in gold anymore.

As we announced earlier this week, the ceramic material offering Apple announced with its Series 2 wearable has actually taken the place of the premium Edition model.
Whereas one could fork out the above mentioned $10,000 USD for the top of the range Watch, consumers can now expect to pay upwards of $1,249 USD for the premium version of Apple’s wearable. Sanity prevails.
The ceramic Watch still costs roughly twice the price of a stainless steel Series 2 model, and three times the cost of an aluminium variant.
The revelation is supplemented by the fact that Apple has done away with ‘Sport’ branding as well. This has likely been done to cement consumer understanding that the Watch now progresses from Series 1 to Series 2 and minimise any confusion around price bracketing.
However, the Edition stands as the priciest version of the Apple Watch for consumers who want the most premium wearable possible on their wrists. We’ll bet that, despite its price, more people will purchase the ceramic Edition than its gold predecessor.
