Samsung's leaked Scoop could be an Echo and Google Home competitor

Leaked product images reveal that Samsung is readying Scoop; a new device which could be a potential Google Home competitor.

Google was the first to rise up and rebel against the likes of Amazon’s Echo with Home, and now leaked images reveal that Samsung wants a slice of the pie. New pictures show the existence of ‘Scoop’ – a new product that could rival Amazon’s and Google’s home offerings.
There is the potential, however, that Scoop could just be another Bluetooth speaker. Leaked images show the product -which is a small, circular unit not unlike Google Home – bears a wrist strap. However, the presence of a microphone icon and status light on the front of the device has set tongues wagging.

Samsung could be well-placed to launch into an Internet of Things (IoT) arms-race; the company already produces a plethora of appliances, not to mention connected gadgets and smartphones. Scoop, should it progress along the likes of Echo or Google Home, could be the first step in uniting all Samsung products under one roof.
Alternatively, Scoop could take the form of an ‘intelligent’ music player with voice recognition capabilities. Samsung’s own music streaming service, Milk, recently shut down in favour of more popular services such as Google Play Music, indicating that the company may have shifted strategy.

The fact that the unit isn’t large – roughly appearing in a similar form factor to other Bluetooth speakers – could indicate that this is a closer take to challenge the dominance of Amazon’s Echo Dot smart speaker system.

The device will likely be unveiled at IFA in September, where we’ll have a chance to find out more about what Samsung has planned.
