A faster Apple Watch 1 could release alongside the Apple Watch 2 later this year

Security analysts predict that Apple could release a faster Apple Watch 1 alongside the Apple Watch 2 later this year.

Say what you like about Apple’s tick-tock iPhone strategy, but one thing the company has never done is release a minor update next to the next major product in the cycle. That could all be set to change, as security analysts have predicted that Apple could release a faster, thinner Apple Watch 1 (let’s call it an S version) next to the Apple Watch 2.
KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has cited his belief that Apple will debut an upgraded Apple Watch 1 alongside the flagship Apple Watch 2 later this year. According to Kuo, the improved Apple Watch 1 model would be devoid of the GPS, barometer, and waterproofing features found on its ultimate successor.

Analysts have further predicted that upon the duo’s launch, Apple will slash the prices of the original Apple Watch in order to establish a differentiated product base; the original model will satisfy an entry level market, the improved ‘S’ variant the mid-range, and the Apple Watch 2 could effectively satisfy consumers at the higher-end of the market.
The move would be an interesting change of strategy for the Cupertino company; it originally relied on a variety of straps, sizes, and colours to satisfy different market segments. However, many consumers complained of the ‘cheap’ feeling the strap of the Sport edition Apple Watch exuded.
The new wearable duo could launch alongside the next iPhone, which in itself is expected to arrive in three different models; a standard option in addition to a Plus and Pro variant.
