LG is slated to launch the V20 – its successor to last year’s V10 smartphone – which will be the first device to run Android 7.0 Nougat.
LG have confirmed their plans to launch the V20 – the follow-up to the V10 – smartphone in September this year. Furthermore, the device, which will pip any new Nexus devices to the post, will be the first of its kind to run the latest version of Android, 7.0 Nougat.
The news is unusual, as Google’s own Nexus-branded handsets are traditionally the forerunners for new versions of Android. The Nexus 5X and 6P, for example, where among the first Android devices to run 6.0 Marshmallow.

However, the move could be indicative of LG’s strong relationship with Google. The Korean company has already manufactured the Nexus 4, 5, and 5X, despite the fact that it might not be in charge of a Nexus device this year – either Huawei or HTC allegedly have that responsibility.
Further, if the V20 holds a similar price tag to what the V10 did – around $600 USD – it will mark one of the first occasions in which a premium smartphone has held the monopoly on a new version of Android.
The V10 was LG’s stab at a higher end device; the unusual contender sported three cameras for creative effects and even carried a secondary front screen – the likes of which is now found on LG’s budget X Screen.
The move could give LG the boost its mobile division desperately need; while the company’s most recent devices have been critically praised, the company continues to haemorrhage money as it lags behind rivals such as Samsung.
