Minecraft will soon support Oculus Rift: get ready to ride pigs in VR

Microsoft has confirmed that the Windows 10 Edition of Minecraft will soon support the Oculus Rift, allowing gamers to play the title in virtual reality.

Donning your headset, you enter into a realm of blocks; square clouds dot the sky, while linear abyss stands before you. As you look down, you realize your hand is gone; replaced by a clumsy, fleshy block. Setting about your adventure, you repeatedly hit a tree until a small block of wood pops out. Your Minecraft adventure has begun.
At least, that’s what it’ll feel like soon enough. Microsoft has confirmed that – as part of its one-year anniversary – Minecraft’s Windows 10 Edition will soon support the Oculus Rift.

Naturally, the announcement perfectly coincides with the fact that today is the last day users around the world can update to Windows 10 for free. If you want to get in on that sweet VR action, you’d best update your PC as soon as possible.
Microsoft has previously teased Minecraft heavily alongside its HoloLens platform, which it has shown will allow users to play the game in augmented reality. While the title became available aboard Samsung‘s Gear VR platform earlier this year, the news is bundled with the release of fresh add-ons which, by developer Mojang‘s account, will enable players to ‘dramatically’ alter the rules of the game.
To show off the title’s VR appeal, Microsoft has added a new roller coaster map which players can download to supplement their experience.
