Microsoft has unveiled Pix; a new iPhone camera app that uses artificial intelligence to improve photos and enhance pictures.
Microsoft has released a bevvy of iPhone apps this year, and it’s not about to stop yet. The company has now unveiled Pix, which is touted as a ‘smarter camera app’.
Using artificial intelligence, Pix is able to adjust camera settings to focus on facial features, and can further automatically enhance pictures and choose the best image out of a series of photographs captured in burst mode.

Microsoft’s automatic enhancements can improve focus, colour, and exposure should the app detect a person within a captured image. The app offers a quick side-by-side view through which users can compare the original and enhanced version of a photograph by toggling.
Interestingly, Microsoft has made its own play on Apple’s Live Photos feature, which will allow users to create live images by stitching frames together that have been captured in burst mode. The result is a short, looping video that’s somewhere in-between a Live Photo and a Vine.
Pix further supports its own built-in gallery that can be organized by different photo types (such as Live Images, Videos, and Hyperlapses) from where users can manually edit their captured images to their pleasure. The app supports a number of Instagram-style filters as well as tools to crop and adjust images.
The app joins Microsoft’s growing roster of iOS apps – the company recently debuted its Word Flow keyboard aboard the problem, which was previously only found aboard Windows Phone.
