A new WhatsApp update has introduced redesigned controls for in-app video zoom functionality, as well as support for bigger emoji.
We’ve previously seen indications that WhatsApp is set to roll out a battery of new features, including music sharing, video calling, and Snapchat-style features. Now, one of those features – support for bigger emoji – forms part of the latest WhatsApp update.
The newest WhatsApp update introduces a redesigned Edit option, from which users can more easily manage a chat and archive, delete, or mark multiple chats as ‘read’ in one swift move.

Individual chats will now load more quickly and will load continuously, without the need to refresh or scroll again to download an earlier messaging exchange.
As part of the update, all emoji which are sent as singular messages will display as Big Emoji; the likes of which you might have seen on Skype or in demos of Apple’s iMessage service which will come into effect aboard iOS 10.
The major new feature found within the update is the ability to zoom in or out while recording video; users will be able to zoom in or out by sliding their finger up or down the screen respectively. It would seem, unfortunately, that hardware controls (such as a volume rocker) are not supported.
Lastly, the WhatsApp Web section within the app’s Settings Menu has been redesigned to read as WhatsApp Web/Desktop, where it lists a redesigned view of clients presently associated with a user’s WhatsApp profile.
The WhatsApp update – version 2.16.7 – is presently rolling out across Android and iOS devices.
