Microsoft has confirmed that its Xbox Play Anywhere feature – which will enable cross-play on Xbox consoles and PCs – will launch on September 13th.
Microsoft has promised greater integration between its Xbox One consoles and Windows-based PCs with the arrival of Windows 10, and soon gamers worldwide will get to join in the fun with the launch of Xbox Play Anywhere.
Xbox Play Anywhere will enable gamers invested in either of Microsoft’s systems to both cross-purchase and cross-play titles on either an Xbox or a Windows 10-based PC.

For example, this theoretically means that gamers who purchase the next Gears of War title – traditionally an Xbox exclusive – will finally be able to play the game on their PC as well.
Microsoft stated to MCV that all games the company publishes from this point forward will make use of Xbox Play Anywhere; meaning that in future Microsoft-published titles will sport cloud-based achievements and game saves. A digital purchase on either platform will further include both releases.
Microsoft further stated that it will unify the Windows and Xbox stores in a bid to offer full games, DLC, add-ons, pre-orders and Xbox Live subscriptions as well as centralised Cortana support.
The Redmond firm further revealed that the Xbox One would receive ‘Language Region Independence’, meaning that the console’s home region and language can be set independently of one another.
With Xbox Play Anywhere, Microsoft moves to prioritise software sales over promoting the Xbox brand, and will oversee the demise of ‘Xbox Exclusive’ titles wherein games such as Gears of War, Forza, and Halo will make the leap to the PC.
