A new WhatsApp update – version 2.16.7.257 – is set to bring music sharing, big emoji support and other features to the world’s favourite IM platform.
A new report has revealed that an impending WhatsApp update will bring a host of new features to the app, such as music sharing and support for big emoji.
Leaked screenshots from the latest version of the app – 2.16.6.257 – reveals that WhatsApp will soon enable users to share music; specifically, users will be able to send songs stored on their phones as well as exchange tracks on Apple Music. For the latter option to work, both parties would need to be Apple Music subscribers.

Exchanging music activates a music player with the app, which appears over the screen with relevant album artwork.
It was also revealed that an impending WhatsApp update would further introduce big emoji; the likes of which were introduced in Apple‘s Messages app during WWDC. Big emoji, as their name might imply, are three times larger than their standard counterparts and are designed to be sent as a message on their own.
Lastly, a significant change arriving within the WhatsApp update will take the form of Public Groups; public groups will function similarly to private group chats, with the notable exception that users will be able to join from anywhere in the world should they have an invitation link. Group admins will be able to remove the link should they wish to close a group chat off to the public.

The WhatsApp update in question is presently in beta, and doesn’t bear an estimated time of arrival. The update will, however, arrive through the iOS App Store and the Google Play Store.
