Amazon will offer you a discount on a new phone, if you let it target you with ads

Amazon has unveiled a new deal with Prime Exclusive Phones, where consumers can get up to 50% off a smartphone should they accept to be targeted with ads.

Who knew Big Brother would want to advertise? Amazon has launched a new deal targeting Android users which will kick off on July 12th named Prime Exclusive Phones, wherein it will offer discounts on budget phones should consumers opt in to receive targeted ads on their home and lock screens.
Consumers who accept will be forced to forego their personal privacy, and be privy to target ads which splash across their devices.

Amazon’s statement on the Prime Exclusive Phones deal reads: “The breakthrough pricing on unlocked smartphones is supported by personalized offers and ads, including deals and product recommendations, displayed on the phone‘s lockscreen. When a customer sees an offer, they can tap to learn more about it or simply unlock their phone to dismiss.”
For clarity, Amazon will proceed to install its own apps onto a device bought under the deal – including the default Amazon shopping app as well as its Prime media apps. The apps themselves can’t be removed, and consumers cannot opt out of the advertising campaign.
Amazon is sweetening the deal by offering unlocked Prime Exclusive Phones which can be used with any carrier in the US, such as AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Sprint. Amazon has opened the offering by providing entry level devices such as the Motorola Moto G for just $124.99 during its initial promotional period.
Presently, the deal is only available to Prime subscribers who’ve already forked out $99 USD per year for the service.
Amazon has previously offered ads atop its own Kindle devices, yet never proceeded to introduce the same offering on its Fire phone.
