The new budget smartphones from British manufacturer Wileyfox hopes the “Spark” some joy under British consumers.
Over the past week, the British have tumbled out of the EU and the Euro Football championship, but smartphone manufacturer Wileyfox intends to lift the British spirits with its latest set of budget handsets. The company introduced a trio of new budgets handsets at its London launch event, the Wileyfox Spark, Spark + and Spark X.
The Spark smartphone is an entry-level device with a 5-inch (720p) display priced at only £89.99 GBP (around R1,850 ZAR). For just under two grand you get a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor with 1GB RAM, 8GB of internal storage, microSD slot, 2,200mAh battery, 8MP front camera and 8MP rear camera. Considering the low price those are some good specs. If the spec sheet is a bit low on power one can go for the Spark +. You get the same display and processor but upgrades include 2GB of RAM, 16GB internal storage and a 13MP rear camera.

To top of the range Wileyfox model is the Spark X (around R2,700 ZAR). It sports a larger 5.5-inch display (720p), 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal space, microSD slot, 13MP rear camera, 8MP front snapper and a 3,000mAh battery.
All three models have dual SIM, 4G connectivity, and ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow (with Wileyfox’s Cyanogen 13.0 UI on top) which supposedly stays true to Google’s Android vision whilst providing extra functionality and customisation. The company has yet to state whether the Wileyfox smartphones will be available outside of the UK, probably a much more difficult task given the circumstances!
