Microsoft Wallet brings tap-to-pay to Windows Phone

Microsoft Wallet is set to introduce a tap-to-pay solution for Windows 10 Mobile users, where credit, debit, and loyalty cards can be added.

Is Microsoft catching up, or is the mobile payment industry simply too hard to ignore? Either way, the company has introduced Microsoft Wallet – a new tap-to-pay solution for Windows 10 Mobile users, which is presently available to Windows Insiders.
Microsoft Wallet joins the ranks of Apple Pay, Android Pay, Samsung Pay and LG Pay in offering a dedicated NFC payment solution aboard devices running Windows 10 Mobile.

While this isn’t the first NFC payment solution to arrive on the platform – Softcard offered a similar service before its acquisition by Google in March of 2015 – Microsoft Wallet takes the form of the company’s own dedicated service.
As NFC payments are standardized, Microsoft Wallet should work in every environment in which Apple Pay and Android Pay are available.
Just in case you were tempted to run out and use Wallet at an Apple Store and splurge on an iPhone, Microsoft offers the added incentive that the service will allow users to pay in the company’s digital stores; enabling users to quickly purchase products such as the Xbox One or Office 365.
Thus far, there has been no confirmation as to when Wallet will officially release on all Windows 10 Mobile devices. Presently, the service is only available to beta users under the Windows Insiders banner, though we expect the service could roll out within Windows 10’s impending Anniversary Update.
