LG's newest TV actually repels mosquitoes

In more news we just can’t make up, LG’s newest television includes built-in Mosquito Away technology for the purpose of repelling pests.

LG is certainly not a fan of anything less than weird and wonderful. In-between releasing an augmented reality vacuum cleaner and producing weird advertisements with Jason Stratham, the Korean company has now produced a television set which includes built-in Mosquito Away technology. Yes, you read that right.
As its name might imply, Mosquito Away technology makes use of ultrasonic sound waves to drive mosquitos away from a communal area, such as a lounge. The technology, according to LG, is both odour-free and is completely “harmless to health”.

The television is aimed towards Indian users, and beyond a standard 1080p IPS panel, built in games, and Dolby Digital Sound, the unit further includes preset modes for the enjoyment of either a Bollywood film or cricket match.
The television set is set to retail from $400 USD upwards, with the entry model’s screen size standing at 31″.
Previously, LG has included Mosquito Away technology in several of its air conditioning and – get this – washing machine models.
The technology could prove a boon ahead of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro this year, where the host country – Brazil – is currently enduring an outbreak of the Zika virus, which is borne by mosquitos. The technology could even assist in reducing hello fever, West Nile, and of course Malaria should LG decide to roll out the television in affected areas.
