iOS 10’s new lock screen is set to introduce substantial changes to your iPhone’s front screen, introducing features such as Raise to Wake.
One of the most substantial changes yet to hit the iPhone comes in the form of iOS 10’s new lock screen, which introduces a complete redesign of not only the means to unlock an iPhone or iPad, but further notifications themselves.
iOS 10’s new lock screen introduces a new feature which many Android devices have made us of up until now in the form of raise to wake, wherein an iPhone will activate when it senses it is being raised to eye level. Apple hopes that this should remedy the issue of users skipping past their lock screen notifications thanks to just how speedy the iPhone 6s series’ fingerprint scanner is.

Notifications now sport a Google card-style design, which leave a wallpaper visible behind them instead of overlaying a gaussian blur. Notifications on the lock screen will now support peek and pop, meaning that users will be able to quickly preview an item before taking action on it.

Whereas swiping left would usually move a user to a PIN entry screen, iOS 10’s new lock screen will allow users to quickly navigate to their widgets which were formerly located in the Today view of Notification Center.
Swiping up from the bottom will reveal a redesigned Control Center for quick controls with 3D Touch support.

The largest fundamental change to iOS 10’s new lock screen is that slide-to-unlock has officially been retired; users will now need to either use Touch ID to sign in or hold their home button to activate the PIN entry screen.
