Samsung’s first Gear Fit wearable was well received, and now leaked specifications have revealed the company is ready for another go with the Gear Fit 2.
Samsung’s first Gear Fit fitness tracker was released back in 2014 to critical praise, and now, with another name worthy of derision, the company is set to release a follow up in the form of the Gear Fit 2.
Leaked images of the Gear Fit 2 first surfaced a month ago, and now a list of specifications have all but revealed the company’s next stab at a fitness tracker. Read: Samsung‘s Galaxy S7 Injustice Edition is its Dark Knight
We’ll say it up front; this looks to be an interesting contender in a market that’s presently in flux. With rumours circulating that wearable devices manufacturer Jawbone could be bowing out of the race, Samsung looks ready to step up to the plate.
The Gear Fit 2 is set to included a 1.55″ curved Super AMOLED display with a Samsung-made 1Ghz dual-core processor, which will be complemented by 512MB of RAM, 2GB of internal storage, and for dust and water maniacs, an IP68 certification.
Given the fact that an IP68 certification means the wearable will be able to sustain half an hour in 1.5 meters of water, it would seem that the device will be suitable for swimmers as well.
With a 200mAh battery, the device – which is tipped to run on Tizen – will include a heart rate sensor, gyroscope, barometer, and accelerometer. Samsung are expected to launch the Gear Fit 2 at some point during this month. Read: Samsung Gear S2 Review: Tizen to the entire range?
