The Mobile In Africa (MIA) group has confirmed something we’re very much looking forward to: the Xiaomi Mi 5 South Africa launch is set to occur as soon as next week.
In good news for fans of the company, the Mi 5 is set to sell directly from MIA, in addition to DionWired, Incredible Connection, Takealot and other retail partners such as Makro and Game.

The device, which saw its official debut at IFA 2015,  is expected to retail for R7,999 ZAR locally; nearly twice the price of the Mi 4, which was unveiled in 2014 and presently retails for a rough price of R4,000 ZAR.
For those who prefer a contract, the Mi 5 will be available on Vodacom’s U Choose Flexi offering, which will offer an additional 5GB of data until June, and will further include three Top Dog education vouchers. The Mi 5 will set buyers back R399pm on contract.
The standard version of the Mi 5 includes 3GB of RAM and 32GBs of internal storage, accompanied by a 5.15“³ full HD display with a pixel density of 428ppi, a Snapdragon 820 processor, an Adreno 530 GPU, and a 16 and 4 megapixel camera split, each with an aperture of f/2.0. The Mi 5 further supports a 3,000mAh battery as well as USB Type C, NFC, and fingerprint recognition.
Presently, there’s no word as to whether we can expect the company’s Mi 4s on our shores.
