Twitter launches 'Connect' tab to help you follow accounts

Twitter aims to rejuvenate stagnant timelines by introducing “Connect” – a new feature that helps you find interesting accounts to follow.

Twitter hit the innovation trail again by introducing a new feature called Connect yesterday which will help you make that all important decision – who to follow? The Connect tab will pull together follow recommendations based on where you’re located, who you already follow, and major events happening on Twitter. The new tab, on iOS and Android, is similar to a previous “Find People” tab that lived in the same space.

Twitter will also help you find friends (through syncing your contacts). Twitter says the tab will change over time as it continues to refine its recommendations based on your activity. The search algorithm will allow you to find more of what you like (basically if you follow a lot of rugby players the feature will suggest more of them).
If this all sounds familiar, it’s probably because the Notifications tab used to have the same name. Now however, instead of showing you what’s already happened, Twitter is hoping the Connect tab can actually live up to its name and be more predictive.

The Connect feature speaks to the fact that Twitter is failing more and more to connect to the mainstream audience. The feature will hopefully assist those with very stagnant timelines (if you follow like 30 buddies from high-school) to become more interesting and engaging (more follows equals more info).
