A new report has indicated that HTC will be in charge of Google’s next Nexus debut, with the codenames Marlin and Sailfish.
Google traditionally opts to put its Nexus devices at the centre of brand relationships, as we saw last year with LG and Huawei. Now, a new report indicates HTC is in charge this time round, with two new devices being codenamed Marlin and Sailfish.
HTC is allegedly developing the next duo of Nexus devices, which will arrive later this year running Android N.

Notorious leaker Evan Blass has indicated that HTC is producing new Nexus hardware “for Google”, under the codenames Marlin and Sailfish, or rather M1 and S1.
Indications of the former’s existence have stretched back further int time – with the Marlin moniker having previously seen exposure – though little to no information has been offered on Sailfish.
It would seem, at first indications, that the Marlin and Sailfish duo would follow the precedent set by last year’s LG-made Nexus 5X and the Huawei-produced Nexus 6P, with the former device being the more affordable of the two.
Producing a Nexus device will likely put HTC in a good space to produce more Android devices this year, in the same manner that both LG and Huawei benefitted following their partnership with Google with the development of the LG G5 and Huawei Mate 8.
However, there is a likelihood that HTC could instead be producing both a smartphone and a tablet, as Google has recently dropped the Nexus 9 from its online store without any explanation, leaving the company without a tablet Nexus device on its virtual shelves.
