If you’ve ever dreamed of piloting the Millennium Falcon, this is your chance: the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy will be Disneyland’s next ride!
The Millennium Falcon has captured hearts and minds since its debut in the 1977 release of Star Wars, and now Han and Chewbacca’s flagship is set to touch down in Disneyland and Walt Disney World at each location’s respective Star Wars land.
In a move that might appeal to adult Star Wars fans as much as children, Disney has revealed in a recent presentation that the Falcon will form part of a pilot-able ride at each park. Watch: Star Wars Rogue One teaser trailer released!
Disney has been hard at work constructing two new ‘Star Wars lands’ following its purchase of the franchise, and, of course, the release of the seventh instalment of the saga, The Force Awakens, in December last year.
Disney Imagineer Scott Trowbridge revealed in his presentation that visitors to Star Wars land will be able to “Step aboard that iconic spaceship, the Millennium Falcon, and take the controls yourself. You‘re actually going to pilot this thing… You‘re going to be the one in complete control, steering it through outer space, firing those lasers cannons, it‘s all up to you so please be gentle with her.” Read: Star Wars: Trials on Tatooine is the VR game we‘ve been waiting for
In a slice of footage below, you’ll be able to see the presentation in which the Millennium Falcon was revealed, as well as Disney’s concept for the Star Wars-themed park in general. Part of one large ride at one location’s Star Wars land will centre on a massive battle between the First Order and the Resistance.
