The Galaxy S7 Edge had best watch out; the HTC 10 camera has tied with it on DxoMark for the rank of best smartphone camera available on the market.
We took the LG G5, Huawei P9 and HTC 10 head-to-head in the latest episode of Bandwidth Blog On Air, but this is something we didn’t anticipate: the HTC 10 camera has tied with the Galaxy S7 Edge on DxOMark for the rank of best smartphone camera.
For HTC, the verdict is a victory following several hit-and-miss years experimenting with smartphone camera technology and the use of UltraPixels.

The HTC 10 camera brings with it a 12 megapixel UltraPixel 2 camera with OIS, laser autofocus, an f/1.8 aperture, a dual tone LED flash, and 4K video recording.
HTC’s official press statements have positioned the 10’s camera as “œthe best smartphone camera available on the market today“, a verdict now supported by one of the most prominent imaging tests around.
For context, DxOMark has positioned the 10 at the top of its camera overview chart, tied in pole position with the Galaxy S7 Edge. That places the HTC 10 above the likes of the S6 Edge +. Sony Xperia Z5, Note 5, and iPhone 6s Plus.

While we’ve a full review of the Galaxy S7 Edge inbound, we’ve previously found the photography prowess of the Galaxy Note 5 and Xperia Z5 to be some of the best we’ve yet to use.
In comparison to its former smartphone models, the HTC 10 has managed to outrank the former One M9 by a decisive 19 points thanks to – as DxOMark states – its autofocus, exposure and contrast.
