S-Pen on the Galaxy Note 6 may double as a kickstand

The Galaxy Note 6 will probably look more or less the same, but the S-Pen may receive some new functionality

This may be a strange time to be getting early rumours on this year‘s Samsung Galaxy Note 6 ““ with the Galaxy S7 launch imminent ““ but we live in strange times. The Galaxy Note 5 has only recently become available in South Africa, yet we are already seeing some patents showing us what we may see in the newest version.

The leaks aren‘t of any prototype renders or leaked images, but rather of a patent that may be used in the latest version of the famed Samsung phablet ““ the one that started it all.
The Galaxy Note 6 will probably look more or less the same, but the S-Pen may receive a new functionality that allows it to double as a kickstand for the phone. It comes from the US Patent and Trademark Office, which recently registered an application for a bendy new S Pen.
This means you won‘t be able to use it for productivity, as it will leave its housing mechanism altogether or easily slot into an idle stance. It is in all likelihood for media consumption, which would be the ideal use case for this design choice. As it‘s currently conceived, the stylus/kickstand hybrid should add absolutely no bulk to a compatible device, unlike all those third-party protective covers that can technically offer their prop-up services at relatively low costs, but with important portability tradeoffs.
Do you ever use you S-Pen on the Galaxy Note 4 or Galaxy Note 5? What do you want to see in the Galaxy Note 6? Let us know how useful you find it in the comments below.
