Microsoft cellular data app rolls out a new SIM card

The Redmond company have quietly rolled out a Microsoft cellular data app which is to be used alongside a Microsoft-branded SIM card.

Live on the universal Windows App Store today, a Microsoft Cellular Data app has been released which would allow users of specific Windows 10 devices with a Microsoft SIM card to connect to a mobile data network.
The company has not disclosed any further information surrounding the Microsoft Cellular Data app, though the firm has clarified that service would soon be available in some markets and offers are for domestic plans only, without the option for international roaming.

In a cagey statement, the company elaborated that “œWe are always exploring new features for Windows 10. Right now, we are exploring additional ways for customers with Windows 10 PCs and tablets to connect to data services. We have nothing further to share at this time.“
The company added that users will be able to purchase a plan through the Windows Store anywhere network coverage is available.
Earlier last year, Microsoft quietly made a deal with French company Transatel to support an upcoming paid cellular data service for Windows 10; the deal in particular specifying that Transatel would provide the service while Microsoft would allow consumers to easily purchase cellular data services.
Presently, there is no word as to whether Microsoft’s new service would expand or include South Africa, though we will provide updates as news develops.
