Samsung slates foldable smartphones for introduction in 2016

Samsung are rumoured to be preparing foldable smartphones for reveal in the second half of 2016, with the final product to be released next year.

Samsung have had a mixed 2015 – seeing great commercial reception with the likes of the Galaxy S6 Edge, but meeting mixed critical reception for its lack of innovation; in particular, the firm’s new ‘copy and paste’ design language. Now, the company is ready to break the mould with the reveal of foldable smartphones.
Financial analysts have predicted that Samsung are quietly preparing to unveil fully foldable smartphones – presently known under the ‘Project Valley‘ moniker, within the second half of 2016.
Reports predict that Samsung will produce limited test runs before the product is deemed mature enough for an official release; leaving speculation to posit that the company will first unveil foldable smartphones this year before they reach the consumer market next year.
Analysts predict Samsung’s hope with foldable smartphones is to recapture the imaginations of those who want “a larger screen size in a smaller form factor” through Samsung could  “œcapture market share in both the smartphone and tablet markets with a single product.“
We’ve previously listed a foldable smartphone as one of our top tech predictions for 2016, and it would seem the first unveiling of one is well on its way to reality.
