Netflix now available in South Africa

Netflix has simultaneously gone live in more than 130 countries around the world, including South Africa

Co-founder and chief executive officer, Reed Hastings, made the announcement at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
Amid the announcement, the South African domain was switched on at www.netflix.com/za on Wednesday and advertised a price of $7.99 (R126) per month with a free month’s trial. The service has simultaneously gone live in more than 130 countries around the world.
“œToday, I am delighted to announce that while we have been here on stage at CES, we switched Netflix in Azerbaijan, in Vietnam, in India, in Nigeria, in Poland, in Russia, in Saudi Arabia, in Singapore, in South Korea, in Turkey, in Indonesia, and in 130 new countries,“ said Hastings.
Previously the website redirected you to a page saying the service is not yet available in SA, but now you can sign up and start your month‘s free trial. It confirms previous reports that the service will be in the country by January 2016. Vodacom also want to partner with providers like Netflix and ShowMax for additional content.
