Google and Ford Motor Company are set to announce a new joint venture that will see both companies build self-driving cars and a ride-sharing network.
Between LG’s upcoming HOM-BOT Turbo+ augmented reality vacuum cleaner and other exciting announcements, CES 2016 looks set to be an exciting event. New rumours posit that a major announcement will be made between Ford and Google, who together will unveil an ambitious plan to roll-out self-driving cars and a new ride-sharing network.
If rumours are true, the partnership would likely pose the greatest risk to Uber yet.
Similar to the manner in which Google partners with various manufactures to produce its Nexus smartphones, the company has allegedly allied with Ford to produce a self-driving car. Google will provide the software and hardware to enable cars to drive unaided, while the motor company will provide manufacturing expertise.
The intention of the endeavour is not centered around the production of private vehicles, but instead to create an autonomous ride-sharing scheme.
The move would fall in line with Google’s business model, which places its products at the centre of networks and ecosystems.
We’ll provide upcoming news before, during, and following CES 2016. Stay tuned! In the meanwhile, let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
