Back in March Sony announced that it had sold 20.2 million PlayStation 4 consoles, which means the last 8 months have been extremely lucrative for the Japanese company as well.
It is now just over two years since Sony started selling the PlayStation 4 and it announced that it has sold over 30 million to date. The consoles are currently being sold in 124 countries around the world, and this latest figure means that they have sold about 1.25 million PlayStation 4 systems since launch.
Also, with the PS4 reaching new sales records, the PlayStation Network has been the busiest it has ever been. Of course, Microsoft have been selling more Xbox One consoles in recent months, mostly due to price drops and new discount deals.
This console generation‘s champion seems to be firmly in Sony‘s control, and with the holiday season around the corner it might pull ahead even further. Many thought that Microsoft would claw back some ground with the announcement of backwards compatibility on the Xbox One, which went live this month, but Sony have now responded by announcing that the PlayStation 4 will indeed also be backwards compatible sometime in the future.
