While today we see much hype surrounding the release of TAG Heuer’s $1500 USD Connected Watch, Xiaomi have decided to flip the proverbial table and release a new fitness tracker – the Mi Band 1S – for a grand total of $15 USD.
While the Chinese company are renowned for bringing effective low-cost technology to the market – something which, hopefully we will see with the release of the Xiaomi Redmi 2 and Mi 4 later this year in SA – the brand has reached new heights by offering one of the most cost-efficient wearables yet.
Unfortunately, consumers outside of China can expect to pay a great deal more for the wearable in terms of shipping.
The Mi Band 1S is compatible with Android and iOS, and tracks a user’s heart rate, counts calories, monitors sleep, and is capable of surviving being submerged for up to half an hour. The MiBand 1S will be released exclusively in China this week.
Xiaomi further released another cost-effective product today; the $24 USD Mi power bank can reach a full charge of 20,000mAh within 5 hours; that equates to nearly four fill recharges of an LG G4.
What are your thoughts on Xiaomi’s low-cost devices? Should similar accessories be released for such a price? Be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
