Microsoft unveils an Xbox controller adapter for Windows 10

Available from the 20th of October, Microsoft have unveiled a brand new adapter that will enable Xbox One owners to use their wireless controllers on a Windows 10 PC.
The adapter, which is USB-based, will be compatible with Windows 10 devices; Xbox One owners will be able to use the controller to play both PC-based games as well as play Xbox games that are streamed to a Windows 10 device using the official Xbox app.
The adapter comes as a result of Microsoft’s renewed focus on the Windows environment, where the company hopes to unite PCs, smartphones, tablets and game consoles under the Windows 10 banner.
Forming part of Microsoft’s ‘universal apps’ initiatve, developers will be able to create games and apps for one platform and easily re-code them to work on another. Through this, Microsoft hopes to cross-pollinate apps across all of its major spheres; smartphones, desktops (laptops inclusive) and games consoles.

The new adapter will support games designed for Windows 10, and unfortunately for Xbox 360 owners, won’t support controllers native to the previous generation console.
So far, Microsoft have released several games, optimized for Windows 10, in order to generate interest amongst gamers – so far, the company has cashed in on the popularity of titles such as Gears of War and Minecraft to lure gamers in. The adapter itself is expected to be priced at $25 USD.
