With the launch of highly anticipated smartphones companies tend to wax lyrical about all of the amazing features and hardware their new product comes with. Even though the new iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus comes with some very neat features, one Apple has failed to mention is water resistance.
A very brave YouTuber, Zach Straley, dunked the phones to test out the water resistance of the devices. In a video posted online (check it out below) on Friday both of the 2015 iPhones spend an hour underwater with no adverse effects. The camera, 3D Touch, the Home button and everything else still appear to work just fine. Mr Straley also confirmed later on that the Lightning port and headphone socket was also in working order.
There is no official word from Apple claiming the phones are water resistant so please don’t try this at home (once SA gets the new iPhone 6S). This experiment however could be the first evidence of the waterproofing technology Apple patented back in March 2015. It uses a thin hydrophobic coating to keep all of the internal circuitry working as normal. It’s hard to know for sure until the manufacturer confirms or denies it.
The Apple watch has undergone similar amateur tests and it seems as though Apple’s 2015 gadgets are designed to resist a decent amount of splashing and submerging. Something that the company doesn’t bother to brag about…
