Hyundai brings remote starting to Apple Watch

The smartwatch concept’s ultimate goal is to be an extension of your your smartphone and thus digital world. What if your smartwatch goes a bit further? Taking over tasks that ordinarily other peripherals in your life would manage, like your car keys? After launching its Android Wear app earlier this year, Hyundai is taking its Blue Link connected car platform to the obvious next destination: the Apple Watch.
You can now find the Watch-compatible Blue Link app in the iOS App Store, offering seemingly all of the same features that are on the Android Wear version “” remote engine start and stop, remote door lock and unlock, remote light flashing, and a car finder with a map, among other things. All features can be activated by voice, giving probably the closest 007 feeling available today!
Blue Link has sidestepped the issue of smartwatches distracting drivers by focusing on the fact that Blue Link is primarily intended to control vehicle functions remotely, not be used while driving. (In fact, it doesn’t seem like there are any features of this app that are useful while the car is in motion.). Over the next few months we will probably see a lot of different auto manufacturers coming out with similar offers.

The updated Blue Link app is compatible with all Blue Link-equipped cars, going back to the 2012 Sonata.
