Today is Apple’s “Spring Forward” event and there is a buzz of excitement among the tech inclined (read our event preview here). The star attraction however is definitely the Apple Watch. There are three big questions on everyone’s mind – When can we buy it? What will it cost? And of course, what will the battery life be like?
From what we have seen so far of the Apple Watch indicates that the wearable will be tethered to the wall quite a lot. Or has Apple managed to improve the situation over the past couple of months since its big reveal?
Answers are likely in store for us at today’s event, but until then we‘re getting a little insight into that last question, as a new report suggests the smartwatch‘s battery life might not be as dire as some earlier rumors suggested.
According to suggested reports last year the Apple Watch may struggle getting through an entire day on a full charge. These reports were aimed at the Apple Watch in early development but it seems as though they have been able to stretch the lifetime for the average user. Apparently you can look forward to about five hours of very heavy app usage, or a full day for most use cases. Contrast that five with the two-and-a-half to four hours we heard quoted earlier.
More information also points to some color-changing UI effects to let us know when the battery‘s really getting low. There should also be a “œPower Reserve Mode“ that will dial-down display brightness and optional Watch services in order to hold you over until your next charge.
It is good that Apple recognizes that battery life is almost THE most important factor of any wearable. Whether you will be able to get through the day without your Apple Watch dying on you remains to be seen.
