Huawei took to the stage on Sunday at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, to unveil a brand new Android Wear device – the deliciously named Huawei Watch.
Huawei has positioned the their new wearable as a premium device – the Watch is the first Android powered wearable to bear a scratch-proof Sapphire crystal display.
With a 1.4 inch circular display, the Watch has a resolution of 286 pixels per inch, slightly more than Samsung’s Galaxy Gear Live, in comparison. The frame of the watch measures 42mm in diameter, which sits near the large end of the smartwatch spectrum.
In technical specs, the Watch boasts a Snapdragon processor, 512mb of RAM, and 4GBs of internal storage. Huawei has also developed over 40 new faces for their new wearable, which, as an Android Wear device, is capable of showing Google Now cards as well as general notifications from texts, emails, and calls.
Android Wear’s newest device is also a looker – featuring a stainless steel body, the Watch echoes similar design sentiments from the Moto 360, but retains an important amount of individuality – the Watch can either be equipped with a mesh or leather strap. Huawei took considerable time to punt – additionally – that the Watch is extremely comfortable to wear.
Huawei’s Watch bears a continuous heart-rate sensor which provides on-board analytics, and carries a 6-axis motion sensor to track sporting and outdoor activities, as well as sleep. Interestingly, Huawei have partnered with Jawbone – the makers behind the popular UP series of wristbands – to enable syncing with the company’s native UP analytics app.
Huawei also stated that the Watch will use a magnetic-clip on charger for convenient power-ups, again in similar fashion to the Moto 360, yet shared no details on potential battery life.
Huawei will release the watch into over 20 countries upon launch, with pricing expected to be released at a later date.
