There aren‘t many Windows tablets out there, and there are even fewer Windows RT tablets. These will be left out to dry with the announcement that Microsoft will discontinue Windows RT. The Nokia Lumia 2520 and the Surface 2 were the last remaining Windows RT tablets being produced, until early this year.
This move comes as no surprise, frankly, as almost all OEM‘s except for Microsoft had already given up on the platform.
“œWe are no longer manufacturing Nokia Lumia 2520; however, those still eager to buy Nokia Lumia 2520 should visit Microsoft Retail Stores, MicrosoftStore.com, third-party retailers and resellers for the latest availability“, a Microsoft spokesperson said.
There was definitely potential for success, with Microsoft briefly partnering up with companies like Asus, Dell and Lenovo, but these relationships also came to an end abruptly.
In Microsoft‘s official unveiling of Windows 10 they made it abundantly clear that Windows 10 will be the only OS will that moniker, saying that it will reside on all your types of devices. There won‘t be a separate kernel for smartphones, tablets and computers.
We think this bodes well for all Windows fans. What are your thoughts on the platform?
