This is somewhat of a contentious issue when it comes to smartphones these days, with many of the new devices truly disappointing when it comes to battery life.
While the Galaxy Note 4 has a large battery by today‘s standards, it also has to push a lot of pixels in that QHD display, and has extremely beefy specs. Also, TouchWiz is a bit of a battery hog, though it is getting slightly better with time.
As we stated in our review, the battery performance on the Note 4 isn‘t quite as good as the Galaxy Note 3. Heavy users might probably won‘t need a charge during the day, but here are some tips to make sure you don‘t.
1. Busy Apps and Processes
Whilst most mainstream apps are optimised to use as little battery as possible, some aren‘t quite as adept. It only takes one or two bad apps to have a runaway effect on your phone‘s battery life. This often happens when these apps incorrectly stay active in the background or keeps accessing a cellular network which will keep your phone from going into the low-power state.
If you’re noticing faster than usual battery drain, go into the Settings and then tap on Battery to see the battery used by various apps since its last charge. Your screen and the Android System should mostly be using the most battery life (other than graphics intensive games), so kill any apps that aren‘t doing what they are supposed to.
2. Display Settings
As mentioned before, while that display is gorgeous it can be use a lot of juice with generous screen on times. It can use the majority of your stored power, especially if your brightness is set high.
To decrease the strain on the battery caused by the screen, go to the display settings. There are various options you can change. You can turn down the brightness here, although it can also be done from the notification tray. Most people use auto brightness, but AMOLEDs can have the tendency to be too bright when it doesn‘t need to be. Be sure to monitor and manage accordingly.
3. Keep a Replacement Battery
While the previous tips can be done on any Android phone, not all of them have removable batteries. This is still a major boon for some people and they keep coming back to Samsung devices because of this reason (among others, of course).
While this won‘t fix your battery life, it does help to have an instant top-up when you are on the move.
4. Use the Adaptive Fast Charger
The Note 4 shipped with its own Adaptive Fast Charger in most regions, which juices up the phone at a much higher rate than your average charging brick. While it may not be the most convenient thing to carry around an extra accessory, the fast charging makes it possible to quickly and efficiently add some extra oomph to your battery. The other possibility it to use Qi Wireless charging, but you will have to buy an extra charger of course.
