Often we see smaller phone manufacturers trying something new and interesting to make a bit of money in a tech sector that is dominated by massive corporates. Their niche devices do sometimes make them some money, even if they don‘t sell in great numbers. This device, however, must have an extremely small market.
Would you buy a phone without a camera? How about one with a monochrome 0.9-inch, 128 x 36 display? Or one without SMS functionality, let alone email or a web browser? I‘m not so sure.
The entire marketing push behind this phone will be that it twists around into a heart. Yeah, that‘s it.

The Heart 401AB is a truly strange phone that will launch in Japan in March. It will run on Japan‘s PHS network, which is often used with low-cost voice-only devices. As you can imagine, the press release is rich in the language of gendered marketing, and explicitly says that the device is aimed at the fashion conscious.
The Heart 401AB is the ultimate example of form over function, but we suppose it’ll be meant to complement a smartphone rather than replace it.
