Korean carrier launching 225Mbps LTE-A in 2014

In Europe and North America LTE is pretty fast, but as we saw in 2013 already, it pales in comparison with the blistering speeds of South Korean LTE. The current LTE-Advanced speeds reached by SK Telecom are already 150 Mbps, but that is expected to be ramped up this year.
Now, SK Telekom has announced plans to introduce an astonishingly fast 225Mbps LTE-Advanced network later this year. That is double the speeds in the western parts of the world. The speed is made possible by aggregating two different bands together. Theoretically, by using three bands a top speed of 300Mbps could be possible in the future.
To give you an idea of how fast this is, a 1GB file will take 35 seconds to download at those speeds. As with current LTE-A networks, dedicated smartphones or tablets will be required to take advantage, with the supporting chipsets still in development. We‘re assuming they are working with Samsung (among others) in order to get chips and of course dedicated smartphones to market that can take advantage of the newer networks.
