Moto G launches early in US

Motorola and Google‘s low-cost smartphone, the Moto G, has surprised everyone has gone on sale in the US way ahead of it‘s planned January 2014 release date.
Just in time for the festive season, the all new, low cost Moto G went on sale for the first time on Tuesday in the United States.
The Moto G, was revealed only a few weeks ago, is available to purchase on Motorola.com. The phone can be purchased with no contract, no SIM lock and an unlockable bootloader for only $179 for the 8GB version. The bigger, 16GB Moto G is also available for purchase at $199.
The Moto G is the low cost version of Motorola‘s latest flagship, the Moto X – much like iPhone 5C is to the iPhone 5S.
Another similarity between the low-cost iPhone 5C and the Moto G is the brightly coloured covers. However, the Moto G covers are interchangeable. You can simply buy a new cover if you feel like a change.
The phone also comes with a 4.5-inch HD display and features a curved back, much like the Moto X.
On the inside the Moto G has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and runs Android 4.3 Jellybean which can also be upgraded to KitKat early next year.
According to some sources, the reason behind the early release is because of a strong, international demand and the ability to ramp up the manufacturing process more quickly than expected.
Besides being available in the US (just in time for Thanksgiving and Christmas), the Moto G is currently available for purchase in Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Germany, France, Canada and the UK.
No word yet on when and if the Moto G will be available in South Africa. However, the company did say that the low cost smartphone will be available in more than 30 countries with 60 partners next year, including  Asia, Latin America and Europe.
