The company has only been in business for about 6 months, but they have already brought six Android smartphones to market. When we reported about Kazam about 5 months ago, many questions remained about what kind of devices they will be producing and who their target market will be. Well, those questions have now been answered with the announcement of six dual-SIM smartphones.
The company was formed by two ex-HTC executives and is based in the UK, concentrating on affordable devices tailored for the European market and tastes.
The Thunder range sits at the top of the Kazam portfolio with two devices, Thunder Q4.5 and Thunder Q5, the latter of which is will be announced soon. Thunder Q4.5 is a 4.5-inch handset that comes with an 854 x 480 (FWVGA) IPS screen, along with a 1.3GHz quad-core Mali 400MP2 processor and 1GB RAM. It runs on stock Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and has 4GB of internal storage, which is expandable via MicroSD. You will also find an 8-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front camera and an 1800mAh battery in the 136 x 64.6 x 8.9mm device, which comes in black only.
The Trooper range is a little more basic than Thunder, but you will see a variety of display sizes, colours and specifications. The smallest in the Trooper range is the X3.5, which comes with a 3.5-inch 480 x 320 TFT display, 1GHz dual-core processor, 512MB RAM and a 2-megapixel rear camera. The biggest in the range is the Trooper X5.5 with a 5.5-inch 854 x 480 TFT display, 1.2GHz dual-core Mali-400 chipset and 512MB RAM, plus a 5-megapixel rear camera. You will also find a 4-inch, 4.5-inch and 5-inch model in the Trooper range, all of which come in dark blue, white and black, with a couple also offered in grey.
All the Thunder and Trooper handsets are dual-SIM and availability and pricing will be announced on a country-by-country basis soon. There have been talks about availability in Africa, but nothing has been confirmed.
