CEO of Naspers ‘s Pay-TV platform Eben Greyling has announced at a press conference recently that in addition to developing the growth of its lower paying subscribers through the introduction of cheaper bouquets, Multichoice will also be focusing on delivering more online content to its subscriber base as a result of the increase in internet penetration both in South Africa and the rest of the continent.
“œRegarding competition we continue to see an increase in competition across the continent from both traditional players as well as online players. Existing players in the broadcasting space are aggressively growing their business and we‘re also seeing new players,“ said Greyling.
With regard to the delivery of online content Greyling said that there is also the video-on-demand service where international companies such as Apple have been expanding their business, an area that Multichoice believes will continue to grow.
In terms of other DStv services, DStv BoxOffice on PVR recently became available online with the DStv Catch-Up service being made available for the iPad. The DStv catch-up service will also be made available for Android tablets as well as other devices in the future.
