According to a report by the Chinese Commercial Times, Taiwanese companies Compal Electronics and Wintek will be contracted to produce the OEM and touch panel production respectively for Google’s very own branded touch notebook, which sees the tech giant following in the footsteps of competitor Microsoft having developed its own branded Surface tablet.
The publication also indicates that the Taiwanese companies have begun shipping components for the notebook.
The 12.85-inch Chrome powered OS notebook could be launched as early as the first quarter of 2013 with Google possibly developing a limited run of 20 million units.
These reports are not new with reports of a Google branded device having already surfaced back in 2009. In 2010, former Google CEO Eric Schmidt suggested that if a Google branded touch sensitive device was ever launched it would only be powered by Android.
