It’s no secret that the iconic Steve Jobs who passed away last year will be the subject of a new biopic about his years at Apple. It’s also no secret that Hollywood actor, Ashton Kutcher will be playing the part of the former Apple CEO. But, we want more details! And here they are.
In a recent interview by Neowin, the producer Mark Hulme of Five Star Institute reveals a few more details about the much anticipated independent film. Hulme will be putting up the money himself to fund the project with the working title of Jobs: Get Inspired, that is due to begin production in Los Angeles in May.
Hulme told Neowin that he was inspired to fund a movie about Jobs’s life when he noticed that on the day that his retirement was announced, the news consumed his creative and IT staff the entire day. Hulme had never seen so much buzz created and such a huge reaction from that one announcement which sparked the idea and the start of an exiting screen play.
To research the life of Jobs, Hulme took advantage of the wealth of material available including documentary footage, books and news articles as well as people who knew him personally. Having said that, one might wonder at which stage of Jobs’s life Kutcher will be required to portray based on such research conducted? Hulme answers this question by confirming that the movie will focus primarily on the early years of Apple, its founding and the “up an down years” from 1971 to 2000 when Jobs was in his 20’s.
Hulme reveals that aside from his physical likeness to a young Steve Jobs, Kutcher was chosen for the role for his ability to portray Jobs’s “youthfulness and psychological complexity”. In addition to the man himself, other characters that will make an appearnce in the movie include Steve Wozniak, John Scully, Mike Markkula and Daniel Kottke the roles of which will be played by “some exciting actors”.
While the film itself is not connected to Apple in any way, Hulme says that the intention of the film is “to be an accurate and inspirational portrayal of his [Jobs’s] fascinating life and the huge impact he had on the world”.
The film will be directed by Joshua Michael Stern of Swing Vote and is expected for release in the U.S. in the fourth quarter of 2012.
