Just in time for the 2011 Rugby World Cup, there is a new way to watch sport with SuperSport’s latest iPad application. The application, that reflects SuperSport’s current multimedia platform strategy, allows fans to experience their favourite match tournaments like never before taking second screen viewing to a whole new level . The application provides an interactive sporting experience where users can gain access to news, stats and Facebook chat while watching the game unfold live.
The landing screen provides top news stories and a tournament tab where specific games can be selected. Once a match has been chosen, the interactivity begins. In order to gain full access to the app, users must select the ‘Check In’ button to login to Facebook and show support for their favourite team. Sporting fans now have access to fixtures and results, profiles of the players on the field, updated polls, live text commentary, a chat facility to share opinions with other enthusiasts and an expanded view of the match.
The expanded view opens live statistics that offers detailed information on tackling, penalties conceded and line-outs won by both teams and much more, providing instant insights into the game as play unfolds live.
The previous SuperSport application generated 27,000 downloads by the end of July and we anticipate this updated version creating even more buzz.
The application, originally tailored for the Rugby World Cup will expand in the coming months.
